Finance The Whiskey Bandit Home / Finance / The Whiskey Bandit The feature film The Whiskey Bandit (2017) is based on real events where at least 30 Hungarian banks were robbed by Attila Ambrus. He got the nickname because he always enjoyed a glass of whiskey at a nearby bar before each robbery. He was eventually arrested and has served his sentence today. Now he focuses on teaching how to avoid becoming a target for crime instead . And he has, among other things, taken part in a commercial where he plays a victim of a robbery. After 13 years in prison, Attila Ambrus has in many ways “changed side”. Today he is a law-abiding citizen who wants to give something back to the society from which he frightened and robbed large sums of money in the mid-90s. He has completely left the criminal environment and now fights crime by teaching the security industry as well as bank and retail staff how a criminal thinks. In addition, he carries out various consulting work, and has, among other things, consulted PROTECT™. The assignment here was a new commercial for PROTECT™, in which Attila Ambrus starred – not as the legendary Whiskey Bandit – but as an endangered jeweler in a shop in Andrassy Street in Budapest. But even though he has 30 robberies on his conscience, it was the first time that Attila Ambrus experienced the role of the victim, when an actor in a jewelry store during filming pointed a gun at him. And he experienced what his victims had felt when, as the menacing robber, he faced them in the banks. PROTECT™ has previously worked with a former criminal who was able to demonstrate how a criminal thinks and works. Similarly, in the United States it is a practice to use former criminals to fight crime. For example, the FBI hired the famous fraudster and check-forger Frank Abagnale as a security advisor after he served his sentence. Alongside this, the film “Catch me, if you can!” about Abagnale’s life recorded. The fog covers the robber PROTECT’s distributor in Hungary contacted Ambrus because they wanted a criminal who could convincingly demonstrate security fog: “During the filming, Attila Ambrus told that he would have considered a bank robbery an extra time if there had been such a security measure in his time. And added: ‘What you can’t see, you can’t steal’.” – In 1-2 minutes, a robber can manage to take everything and even be gone before the police or security guards arrive. So customers often complained that they were robbed of valuables despite security systems and video surveillance. Safety fog is the solution, because it fills the room with white fog. The fog cannons must be installed so that the employees have an escape route and the robber can quickly leave the store without profit, concludes the distributor in Hungary. The former bank robber, Attila Ambrus, after his long prison sentence, now spends much of his time advising e.g. traders on how to secure their values and staff. For example with safety fog from PROTECT™. Ambrus has stated in an interview that if there had been security fog in the banks he robbed, he would never have been successful as a robber.
